Meal out at The Little Castle

At the beginning of November,  20 of our North East Derbyshire group members went out on a trip to the Little Castle at Duckmanton for a carvery meal. With 3 volunteers and staff attending it was a lively, fun and busy afternoon.

Whilst chatting, two ladies found out that they used to work together many years ago:

“If I’d stayed at home we would never have met, how lovely”, “Without coming here today on Maureen & Chloe’s trip we would never had the chance to meet again after all this time”

Everyone enjoyed their meal and also the service “The waiting staff have been really accommodating and helpful” – big thanks to the staff at The Little Castle for their support.

Another lady said “I don’t know what I’d do without these outings and groups, I would hardly see a soul without it, what a happy afternoon it’s been”.

Mayors Coffee Morning Fundraiser in Chesterfield

This year the Mayor of Chesterfield – Barry Bingham has chosen 3 charities, which mean a great deal to him, for his Annual Appeal. Funds raised through his Appeal are to be shared between: Sight Support DerbyshireNenna Kind and  The Chesterfield Royal Hospital Eye Centre.

On 10 November a Fundraising Coffee Morning was organised by North East Derbyshire staff for the Mayors Appeal. There were plenty of scones, jam and cream as well as tea and coffee, served by our volunteers and staff, served up at the Parish Tea Rooms in Chesterfield. More than 40 visitors (including our VIP’s)  came along to the event, bought a cream tea and tried their hand on the tombola.

There was also a “Guess the toy Dog’s name” – which was won by Denise, with the winning name of ‘Dusty’ (pictured right).

The Mayor and Mayoress attended the event and chatted to many of our visitors, with the Mayor giving a short and personal speech at the end of the event.

Just over £200 was raised during the afternoon, all of which will go towards the Mayors Annual Charity Appeal. A huge thank you goes to Maureen and Chloe for the organising of the event, to the volunteers who helped out and to Irene Moore for her hard work and kind donation of the delicious home baked, cream tea scones.

Until next time……
