World War One Project

Attendees to WW1 ProjectSome of our North East Derbyshire Project members, have been asked to join in with the Heritage Lottery Fund World War 1 project, the aim of which is to explore the charity’s joint heritage with WW1.  Spiral Arts will be working with us on the project over coming months and are going to create a tactile display at the end of it, this will then be displayed in our Derby office before going on tour around the county.

Pat WW1 Project

The first official meeting took place in Clay Cross where members listened to poetry from World War 1 and passed round tactile reminisce from the wartimes. They also tasted bully-beef stew and were encouraged to let us have their thoughts, feelings and personal stories on what it might have been like back in the day.  Spiral Arts from Derby were present at the meeting and members were given the opportunity to make a medal, the medal could represent anything that they felt they were good at. Pat is pictured to the right with her medal.

Keep a look out on further and future news on the WW1 Project here on our blog soon!

 Awareness Talk

Diane and Chloe recently visited the Community Care Team in Bolsover to share the success of the North East Derbyshire Project and let them know about what support, activities and groups and information is available to people with a visual impairment in the area. The talk included a quiz on which vegetables contained the highest levels of ‘lutein and zeaxathin’ – antioxidants which may help reduce the risk of Age related Macular Degeneration and the ‘superfood’ curly kale. Please see link to the Macular Society’s leaflet on ‘Nutrition and Eye Health’ for more information.

If your organisation would like to find out more about what we do, and would like us to visit your group or team, please contact us to arrange a visit.

Until next time…..
